Cast List: Book 1

Inuyasha Who Seeks the Shikon no Tama (short version)

(a.k.a. Inuyasha of the Shikon no Tama, Inuyasha of the Jewel of Four Souls, or locally, simply Lord Inuyasha) Dog-Boy. Half human, half daemon. Killed by Kikyou—arrow through the chest, stuck to a tree. Revived by Kagome, whom he came to love and to whom he was bound as protector and the one protected. 25 manga volumes, 60+ anime episodes, 1 movie, and still going. Read the series, or read the "origin" description in my Books 2–3. (For the long version of this character description, see under Prologue. Make yourself a cup of coffee or something first, it's long and dense.)

Miko (priestess), guardian of the Shikon no Tama, a jewel of evil power. In love with Inuyasha. They were tricked by Naraku into betraying one another. Mortally wounded by Naraku, she killed Inuyasha by shooting him with a magic arrow that impaled his body to a tree. Reanimated by the ogress Urasue, infused with part of Kagome's soul when Inuyasha inadvertently spoke her name, she lay claim to Inuyasha's life and sought to have him join her in death.

Evil half-daemon who lusted after both Kikyou and the Shikon no Tama (like Inuyasha, no?). A shape-changer. He tricked Kikyou and Inuyasha into betraying one another and mortally wounded Kikyou, who then killed Inuyasha. He hoped Kikyou's malice would taint the Shikon no Tama and give him incredible power; instead, Kikyou went quietly to her death, taking the jewel to her funeral pyre. At one time or another he did bad stuff to everybody else. Sort of afraid of Kikyou, very much afraid of Kagome. The perm is my idea, because it's fun to draw.

Higurashi, Kagome

Middle school girl who lives in an old Shinto shrine in Tokyo. Pulled down an old well by a centipede monster, she emerged from the well 500 years in the past and found Inuyasha pinned to the tree. What with one thing and another, she revived Inuyasha, shattered the Shikon no Tama, learned to shoot a bow and arrow, and joined with him in the quest to regain the fragments of the jewel. Loved and was loved by Inuyasha, bound to him as protector and protected, remained faithful even when he inadvertently helped revive his former love, Kikyou. Brave, kind, resourceful, honorable, she had unsuspected strong magical/spiritual powers, and became increasingly powerful throughout the quest as her love for Inuyasha grew.

Buddhist monk with both strong spiritual powers and an eye—well, actually usually a hand—for the ladies. Cursed by Naraku with an extradimensional void (like a black hole) in the palm of his right hand; the void would eventually swallow him up if Naraku were not defeated. Friend and companion of Inuyasha and Kagome, both of whom he likes and admires. Enamored of Sango.

Pretty 16-year-old daemon exterminator whose younger brother, Kohaku, was possessed by Naraku and killed their father and comrades, while wounding Sango and himself. Wants revenge on Naraku. Close friend and confidant of Kagome, friend and companion of Inuyasha, enamored of Miroku. Accompanied by her pet two-tailed whatchamacallit, Kirara.

Orphaned fox daemon and trickster who became one of Inuyasha and Kagome's companions, treating the two almost as parents.

Two-tailed daemon thingy that is usually little and cute but transforms into something big and cute—cross between a cat and—and something with flaming feet.

Shrine maiden at the Higurashi shrine in 21st century Tokyo. Age 16; serious attitude problem. Would rather work at Wack Donald's and live in Hawaii or Hollywood. Black sheep of her particular family, doncha know.

Shrine maiden at the Higurashi shrine in the 21st century. Age 13, sensitive, well-meaning, tender-hearted, easily flustered, skittish, prone to tears.

Okay, that's not really his name. I don't know what his name is. We went from Takahashi's Wacdnald's to Wack Donald's, and then decided he must be Donald . . .
